October’s Featured Wines – First 15 Days

Hi all!  Welcome to our first wine picks for our Featured Wines section!  For October’s first selections, we wanted to recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month by going pink!

Here are the two rosés we’re drinking now:

Mulderbosch Rosé

Mulderbosch Rosé, 2010 - South Africa.

What They Say:  A sexy pink colour with a pretty orange tint.  The nose is intensely aromatic with tangerine peel, raspberry and wild strawberries. The palate has a crystal purity with lovely weight and notes of grapefruit on the long finish.

What We Say:  This is a rosé I have had before and enjoyed.  I love a good fruity rosé because it makes me feel like I’m drinking summer.  Granted, I live in Florida so that’s not hard for me.  It’s a great drink alone or with a light meal.

Blend Information: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon

Food Suggestions:  Serve well chilled.  Delicious with crab cakes, chicken satay, Japanese food, herb roasted turkey, ratatouille, fruit-glazed pork chops or strawberries and cream.

Price Point: $12.99 (Total Wine)

Mulderbosch Vineyards

Domaine Fontanyl Rosé

Domaine Fontanyl Rosé, 2010 - Cotes de Provence

What They Say:  Lively and fragrant, this beautiful Rosé from Provence shows alluring aromas of ripe berries and dark flowers.  The flavors of ripe strawberry and wild cherry are presented in a sophisticated manner that preserves the character of the fruit, but in a dry, straightforward style.

What We Say:  I couldn’t do a rosé feature and not have one be from France.  That would just be wrong.  I was recommended this one as a counterpoint to the Mulderbosch’s more fruit forward flavor.  It’s lighter on the palate and less sweet.

Blend Information: Rhone Blend

Food Suggestions:  Serve well chilled.  We think (no online info) this wine would pair well with shellfish, salmon, grilled chicken and lighter fare.

Price Point: $12.99 (Total Wine)
